Starting a small business is incredibly exciting and most, unfortunately; are set up haphazardly. Market research into your customer base, what they're thinking, and what will connect them with your service, or product should be the #1 priority. How is that done you may ask ...? Through Color Psychology!


Color Psychology dates back to ancient Egypt (yes, you read that right), they studied how color affects both mood and well-being in individuals. It's well known that the Egyptians knew way more than we do, so it is still relevant today. Media companies use it in marketing and advertising all around the world, so it's definitely worth a look if you're thinking about starting a business.


Let's take a look at the color wheel below and break down the process of adding color psychology depth into your logo. This has the capability of promoting an emotional connection between your business and your prospective customer.

For example, my 15 year old daughter's dream is to start a Bakery business; let's utilize the five senses to find our color connections so we can design the perfect logo. To do this, we use the five senses!

Taste: Passion

Hear: Trust

Smell: Freshness


Now that you know what feelings you want to invoke, it's time to think of shades and tones and simplify!

Using the above process, my daughter was able to come up with design ideas for her future logo and we got to work! Here are the results:


As you can see we used all of her color choices and it is easy to picture this logo on a cake box or chef hat!


Hopefully, this process helps you decide what colors to use for your brand to be able to speak directly to what your customers and clients want to feel when using your product or service.


*Pro Tip: To save money in the long run, choose a maximum of 3 colors for logo designs. This way you can avoid full-color upcharges for anything you may need to be printed!*
